Fortunata doesn’t quite live up to her name, which means “lucky”. A working class hairdresser with a failed marriage and an eight-year-old daughter who has behavioral problems, she fights with determination to open her own salon and challenge fate, but her energies are constantly drained by needy friends and prickly family issues. Unfortunately, a sudden discovery of love has her dreams waylaid, leading to fateful errors. Much like Mamma Roma in Pasolini’s neorealist classic, Jasmine Trinca gives an award-winning star performance in her portrayal of the indomitable heroine with raw passion.
